Katie and I have started collecting Glidden ceramics. Specifically the Menagerie patterns. eBay is our main resource for acquisitions, but we’ve gotten one platter from Twice Upon a Time in Brattleboro.
Katie got me a book on Glidden ceramics for Christmas. Unfortunately the company, which is from Alfred NY home of SUNY’s ceramics school, went out of business fifty years ago.
Too bad the factory is closed down! I visited the Hall China Factory (makers of Fiesta Ware, etc.) in East Liverpool, Ohio (just across the bridge from Pennsylvania) while on a research trip to Cleveland. This was 10 years ago, but visitors could wander at will through the factory, and the workers were happy to explain the processes and answer any questions. (Us midwestern folks are just so darn nice, ya know?) Anyway, I will keep an eye out at Boston-area yard sales for you. Looking forward to this weekend!!!!
